Welcome!

Congress? You reading this? Yeah, I'm talking to you. I'm a citizen and you're kinda sorta supposed to listen to me. I may not have voted for you, but the least you could do is represent me. Anyone else reading this, tell me what you think. This blog isn't just a blog, its interactive so get involved and speak your mind! Literally of course.

Afghanistan

The White House has rejected the call for more troops in Afghanistan. They wish to take a more reconstructive approach.

You can not build a school and have the benefits when the Taliban just have the workers building it bribe them not to attack, and when the school is finished burn the school down because we can't provide enough security. You need to secure the situation before you rebuild the nation. I really wish our president would do his job and use common sense at the same time.

As an entertaining aside, perhaps viewing "Charlie Wilson's War" might be instructive in gaining insight into the history of US policy towards Afghanistan. We did whatever it took to beat the Russians, but build a school or a hospital for the children of Afghanistan? No way, wouldn't benefit the employees of any of the defense contractors one bit. And isn't that what it really is all about: money, guns and bullets?

Following your logic, they would love schools because they would be hired to protect them. The reality in Afghanistan is there are not enough troops or mercenaries to do the job, which is why failure now seems possible.
